MGS relies on KraussMaffei as its long-standing machinery partner for the manufacture of medical devices. Just how dynamic these markets are becomes particularly evident when there is a simultaneous need for many fully electric PX injection molding machines.

Large-scale medical projects for the international healthcare market require speed, repeatability, and absolute confidence in every single part manufactured. MGS, headquartered in Germantown, Wisconsin, covers the entire value chain—from the initial drawing to the packaged component.

A Global Service Network as the Backbone of Production

CDMO—Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization—reflects MGS’s commitment to providing development and manufacturing services from a single source. From product development to the delivery of finished components, every project must run smoothly.

After all, in the pharmaceutical, diagnostics, and medical technology sectors, the focus is always ultimately on patient safety. “We’re in the Champions League when it comes to volume, precision, and quality. That’s why we need the right partners,” says Dirk Paulmann, Vice President of Global Marketing at MGS, summing it up.

MGS Relys on KraussMaffei

To reliably meet these high standards, MGS has relied on injection molding machines from KraussMaffei. The all-electric PX machine with an LRX linear robot in a medical-grade configuration plays a central role in this process, featuring, among other things, an automatic, closed-loop central lubrication system.

The platform is consistently designed for ISO Class 8 cleanroom manufacturing—an environment in which MGS manufactures with approximately 1,500 employees at locations in the U.S., Costa Rica, Mexico, Ireland, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, and Slovakia. Additional peace of mind is provided by KraussMaffei’s international service network, which enables rapid on-site support in the event of maintenance needs or malfunctions.

Keeping Pace with Growth

Many of MGS’s programs are based on multi-cavity molds with demanding cycle times. High reproducibility across all cavities is crucial here. Especially with low part weights—which are typical for laboratory materials, for example—it is not only precise hot-runner technology that matters, but also machines that ensure a consistently high shot weight. With APCplus, KraussMaffei provides a digital function that adjusts the switch-over point and holding pressure from shot to shot to match the respective melt viscosity.

Furthermore, medtech projects are often characterized by a unique dynamic. MGS, too, must be able to ramp up production quickly. Accordingly, KraussMaffei’s ability to respond rapidly to these dynamics was a decisive factor in the choice of machine partner. The team led by Thomas Hörl, Key Account Manager for Medical at KraussMaffei in Parsdorf, has already overseen the delivery and commissioning of a large number of machines within tight time frames on multiple occasions.

For Paulmann, it is precisely this responsiveness that is a decisive factor: “We need partners who can keep pace with our customers’ growth. KraussMaffei has proven time and again that it is up to the challenge.”

The company’s proprietary A.i.r. Platform (Auto-injector reimagined) opens up additional growth potential. Based on a fully certified internal mechanism, MGS customers gain access to a proven, ready-to-use system. Its exterior design and user interface can be customized to match the brand, therapy, and patient needs. This shortens development times, reduces technical risks, and accelerates the path through regulatory processes to market launch.
