Components for electric vehicles and electronics place increasing demands on electromagnetic shielding, electrical insulation, and fire protection. At Fakuma 2026, Techno-Compound will showcase thermoplastic compounds that combine these properties with sustainability requirements.

EMC Shielding Without Metal

To protect sensitive vehicle electronics from electromagnetic interference, the compound manufacturer has developed the AbsorbXX product line. The compounds are based on carbon-fiber-reinforced and carbon-black-filled polyamide 6 and polypropylene recyclates. Depending on the material variant, they achieve EMC shielding values of up to 55 dB in the frequency range from 30 MHz to over 1.5 GHz. This makes these plastic compounds a lighter and easier-to-process alternative to metals.

High creep current resistance with 75 percent recycled content

The Techno-Mid GF 30 2 MH H, an electrically insulating material is available for high-voltage components. The PA matrix consists of 75% recycled material and is reinforced with 30% by weight of short glass fibers. The material achieves a Creep Track Index (CTI) of 600 V, placing it in Group 1, which has the highest creep current resistance.

A special heat-stabilization process enables continuous operating temperatures of up to 150 °C, along with high resistance to heat aging, oils, and solvents. The glass-fiber reinforcement also ensures the dimensional stability required for complex relay boxes and connectors.

Halogen-free flame retardant for thin-walled geometries

Despite the long flow paths, Techno Dur PBT GF 7 1 HFFR V0 fills the mold for this support structure for sliding doors. At the same time, the PBT compound meets the requirements for flame resistance and stiffness.(Bild: Techno-Compound)

For flame-retardant housing structures, the company is presenting the polybutylene terephthalate compound Techno Dur PBT GF 7 1 HFFR V0. The formulation contains 7 wt% short glass fibers and meets the V-0 rating according to UL 94 at a wall thickness of 0.4 mm. Due to the low fiber content, the melt exhibits high flowability. This allows processors to fill mold cavities for thin-walled parts with long flow paths without an unacceptable increase in pressure. The material combines high stiffness with processing-friendly rheology.

In addition to these key areas, the compounder is expanding its portfolio to include closed-loop solutions in accordance with the End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation (ELV-R) as well as sustainable solutions to comply with the EU Packaging Waste Directive (PPWR). In addition, free-flowing PA6 Easy-Flow grades are available for large-surface-area front-end modules, and sustainable PP-LGF grades are available for vehicle interiors. (mg)
