At Fakuma 2026, Hellweg aims to demonstrate how granulators process challenging plastics using shear cutting—cleanly and without thermal pre-cooling. Visitors are invited to bring their own materials.

At Fakuma 2026, Hellweg offers visitors the opportunity to experience the grinding of plastics—which are generally considered particularly challenging in this regard—using their own samples. Two fully operational grinders with working widths of 230 mm and 600 mm, respectively, will be available at the booth. The expanded range of materials on display, including films, high-performance plastics and technical fibers, illustrates the virtually unlimited range of applications for Hellweg’s mills.

Perfect cut, even with soft plastics

The key to this versatility lies in the consistent use of true shear cutting to finely grind the feed material. The result is a perfect, homogeneous ground material with a minimal proportion of fine particles, a narrow particle size distribution ranging from 1 mm to 50 mm, and a uniform, smooth-edged geometry. This is ideal for subsequent recycling stages. This applies even to soft TPE grades without the need for additional, energy-intensive cooling of the material or the grinder.

“Extensive testing in our in-house technical laboratory, as well as practical experience with our customers’ materials, has shown us that we can take on any challenge. Anyone who would like to see this for themselves is cordially invited to bring samples of their ‘problematic’ material to our booth,” said Managing Director Mark Hellweg.

Further Expansion of Digitalization

All Hellweg mills can already be equipped with the Smart Control system, which monitors parameters such as power consumption, motor speed, and bearing temperatures. Operating hour counters are used to track and analyze the service life of blades, screens, and V-belts. In addition, Smart Control can continuously optimize the balance between motor load and throughput.

Expansions to this modular system will be on display at Fakuma 2026. These include the at K 2025 introduced for the first time at K 2025, which uses microwaves to measure flow in real time and allows for the determination of grinding performance over time. A vibration measurement function that provides insight into the machine’s condition will be unveiled for the first time at Fakuma 2026.
